This winter we’re partnering with Darebin Repair Cafe to once again run two of Gordon’s workshops here at ACC.

Always fabulous! On Saturday 13 June, come along and learn how to keep your sewing machine in tip top shape and identify and fix common problems that are caused by simple things like threading, bobbin choice etc. The workshop starts at 9.30am, the cost is $35 and you can book in here. You’ll come away with greater knowledge of your machine, a small kit for ongoing maintenance and a renewed passion for sewing (🧵 hopefully).

Then on Saturday 11 July, come learn the basics of overlocker maintenance. How to get your machine humming along and keep it that way! This will also be a 9.30 start with $35 tickets. You can book in at this link. And, helpfully, there will also be a small cleaning kit provided to take home afterwards.

We’re in round 12 … and a big congratulations to Adopted Crupi (Corrado) … with ‘Soarin’ (Thomas) coming second so far … only one point behind. Then we have a tie for 3rd - Dansuri and Richicog … with Alex and Rose coming a bit* further down the ladder.

However, they (Alex and Rose) are diligently coming in to ACC every week on Friday to update the IRL ladder for all to admire. See below for the latest photo of the results.

I (Leanne) started taking an extra interest in the footy a week or so ago when Jack Ison got his first game with Carlton - he and his family were at Fairfield PS with my kids and he played at Parkside Footy Club etc. So lots of local families were pretty chuffed to see him play in the AFL (I saw posts all over Instagram).

Anyway … I digress. We’re all looking forward to the rest of the season. I am sure we will rustle up a fabulous prize or two for the winners.

And a big thanks to those who are participating. It has been a super talking point through the week for everyone at ACC - particularly on Fridays.

Yarra Council is bringing together experts from Elders Rights Australia and the Multicultural Liaison Protective Policing Unit for a conversation around staying safe in public … and private (eg.elder abuse) as you age.

All the details are below. This afternoon tea event is on Thursday 18 June in Collingwood … note you do need to RSVP by 15 June.

We’ve had these types conversations before at ACC a few years ago … and people have found them very interesting.

Keen to join a daytime book club?

We are hoping to get a couple more people interested so we can start a Tuesday morning book club from July.

The group will meet monthly with books supplied by Darebin Libraries.

This week Darebin Council endorsed new funding and leasing agreements for our neighbourhood houses.

We now have secure tenure for the next 8 years (4 + 4 lease) and funding for 4 + 4 years (with a review process built in along the way).

It is a great outcome and it was lovely to attend the meeting and hear just how much our local Councillors value neighbourhood houses.
