“connecting our community”
A new greenhouse

With funding from the Federal Government (to support volunteer activities) we recently purchased a little greenhouse for our front garden.

Thanks for putting it together Corrado. And thanks Ged Kearney MP for supporting this grant application. It’s great to be able to collectively support volunteering in our community

Now we’re looking forward to raising seedlings and nurturing cuttings for our seed library and community garden 🪴in it.

New page

Thanks Annie.

On the weekend local artist Annie Bolitho ran her New Page workshop here at ACC. Adults and children joined in this intergenerational creating experience to explore hand crafted bookmaking and page making … using flowers such as nasturtium and violets to create prints and learning how to then build up layers of collage and add stamping to make gorgeous art books and diaries.

We hope everyone was inspired.

Fridays

On Fridays we run a terrific low key community morning. A lovely mix of neighbourhood friends come along … some craft, some chat, some garden, some work in the shed … and then we all come together for morning tea at 11.30am.

It was super to see everyone this week … but with dreadful weather it was hard to get cracking in the garden, so Clare and Theresa and Sandra etc. creatively packaged up seeds and stocked our seed library out the front with seeds we’d saved.

And for once we had morning tea inside … it was just bucketing down at 11.30am!

By the time I left for the day however the sun was shining - and I took this photo of the seeds and also the herbs Clare put out … we hope you saw them and perhaps found something to take home for your garden or kitchen (or a book) from our street libraries this weekend.

Cultural cooking - Indian condiments

Manu will be back this term with another cultural cooking class - teaching you how to make tamarind (sweet and sour) chutney, green chutney (with mint and coriander), and raita variations.

We all love the sauces and dips that elevate our cooking from good to great. So don’t miss this chance to learn how to make your own at home to make your next Indian meal exceptional.

Book your place here.

Cost $50

Saturday 15th October 11am-1pm here at the Alphington Community Centre.
