Last week we had some exciting things happening, including a birthday celebration at Community Lunch on Friday.

We also had a delivery of compost on Friday …. FOGO (from our green bins).

And I went to a really interesting meeting with the Minister for Planning, Sonya Kilkenny on Wednesday talking about placemaking and the character of our suburbs in the context of the new planning guidelines that are out for comment. The meeting was organised by our local MP Kat Theophanous and it was super - not just to hear from the Minister, but also to talk to and listen to other local stakeholders about key issues for our community such as public housing, river and catchment health, public transport infrastructure and pressures, and urban development controls (particularly for large developments such as Yarra Bend).

The (now) annual Yarra Neighbourhood House Network thank you lunch for volunteers was on this Saturday - rounding up National Volunteer Week.

It was lovely that some of our committee and fabulous volunteers got to meet other volunteers across Yarra, and enjoy lunch and music and chatting.

The event was also attended by key staff and Councillors from Yarra which was super.

At ACC we have so many people who do big and little things to help each week - from coordinating their book club to teaching line dancing … to dropping off the money, helping out at our markets, knitting, cooking, setting up toy library … providing extra support for participants for our access all abilities programs … and of course being on our committee of governance to help guide our strategic direction.

So … thanks so much to EVERYONE who puts time and energy into ACC. We really appreciate it!

We had six people at preserves this week.

We made beetroot relish and had a lovely chat … and coffee and a bikkie while we waited for the relish to cook and thicken.

And … imagine … we could all stand around the kitchen bench to chop And grate. Amazing!

Our jams and preserves group meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 1-3pm. Our next session will be on Tuesday 18 June. We’re thinking about onion jam and marmalade, preserved lemons 🍋 or maybe drying some citrus … 🍊 so, if you have any excess oranges, lemons, cumquats etc. in your garden we’d love to make use of them! Just drop them into the office. Thanks.
