The Circular Living Challenge is a 30-day challenge focused on engaging the community and local merchants in the City of Yarra to build a more circular economy.

Brought to you by Circular Economy Victoria and Reducing our Footprint, this initiative will take place from the 19 September to the 14 October.

The participation is open and free of charge, but we only have a limited number of spots available. Register your interest today and be part of the change towards a more sustainable City of Yarra!

This program is supported through the Climate Action stream of the Yarra Council’s Annual Grants Program.

You can find out more here.

Community membership

Did you know that Yarra Leisure Services - the pool, gym etc. at Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond have a special community program that we can tap into at ACC. It enables community members with a healthcare card or age/disability pension card and

  • from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, or

  • living with a disability, or

  • over 55 years of age

to access the services they offer between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday and any time on the weekend - at a significantly discounted rate. We can purchase either 3 month or 12 month memberships on your behalf, and will provide you with a letter to take along on your first visit. You will also need to take your age/disability/healthcare card with you.

If you are interested in this program please email us here. We need to get a minimum of 6 people signed up to access the community membership program.

It really is an amazing opportunity to enable the whole of our community to keep fit and healthy and we’re really pleased to be able to partner with Yarra Leisure to offer this program to you, so let us know if you are keen!

Support for family violence survivors

Rachael contacted us to share information about “Nature Connect” at the Collingwood Children's farm.  It is a program for survivors of family violence to enable them to meet up and support each other in nature.

Women can attend the farm (with young children or not) to meet other women. The group meets on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm.  Attendees have the choice of focussing on social time or undertaking volunteer tasks around the farm. This group is not facilitated as such but there are peer volunteers who are present. In addition the farm staff greet the group each week.

You can find out more about the program here.

Thank you Rachel for sharing. We hope if anyone needs this support they find this helpful.

Training opportunity

We recieved this information in our inbox from Anastasia and thought it might be of interest to some people out in the community. Thanks for sending it through Anastasia.

The Women's Enterprise and Community Projects (WEC) Program will start in early October 2022.

The WEC Program is a FREE 14 week micro-business program that is funded by the Victorian Government through the Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions (DJPR) and delivered by our social enterprise Two Square Pegs.

The program supports under-represented women to use their personal experiences to explore ideas for a business or community project which solves a gap in services or products in their communities.

The program provides practical enterprise training, hands-on mentoring and access to up to $1000 in seed funding to promote self employment opportunities.

Here is a link to information for participants and a link to information for mentors. Applications close on the 30th of September and spaces are limited.

You can find out more about the WEC Program by going to whei.org/wec.
