Eco-dyeing … part 2

Local artist Rose Kulak did an fabulous job this year replacing our Science Week in-person eco-dyeing workshop with a take home kit. Over 20 families collected the kits from us. I know I’ll never look at sour grass (oxalis) now without thinking about the amazing colours it can produce in a dye bath.

As a follow-up Rose has now put together a second kit that is an introduction to contact printing with natural dyes … onion skins, eucalyptus leaves etc. The kit includes all the materials you will need along with a step by step instruction sheet … it will make a wonderful weekend or mid-week project.

If you emailed us previously for one of these kits please pop in and collect it this week. If you haven’t put your name down but would like to collect a kit and have a go please email us here.

And thanks again Rose for sharing your skills. What a great community we live in!

Street library

Happy days! I picked up a new (to me) Kate Atkinson book from our street library today. The library is nice and full again, including a good selection of books for children - could be perfect on a rainy weekend.

Thanks whoever dropped this book off - I am looking forward to reading it this weekend.

Beanies

Cute beanies hey? Frank up the road knits them for us and drops off a bag every 6 months or so.

They come in a variety of sizes suitable for adults and kids. And … could make a perfect Christmas present don’t you think? Especially for those planning a camping trip over summer … or a holiday to Tasmania.

Our beanies will be for sale at our Christmas Maker’s Market, coming up on 27 November, from 10am - 1pm.

Are you crafty too? If you’d like a stall there are still some available. Only $20. Book here.

Keen to start your Christmas shopping? Save the date and come along!

What we did on Wednesday ...

It was lovely to reconnect with everyone again on Wednesday. We had quite a few families out in our garden throughout the morning - playing in the sandpit, using the ride-ons and enjoying the craft activities Lee put out.

And lots of our long-standing friends popped in to see us too - either coming for a sausage or a coffee as part of our 12pm BBQ lunch … or popping past throughout the day for a chat. It was great to see people in the flesh!

Jill ran the lunch, and juggled the timing complexities of sausage cooking and coffee making with aplomb … and I was very happy to be the guinea pig for her latte’s, they were pretty good! We’re very pleased to be able to do some fundraising for Friends of Baucau via the fancy coffee as part of our regular program.

And now we're looking forward to next week! Note we will be closed Monday and Tuesday for the Cup Day long weekend … but will be raring to go on Wednesday.

A special thanks to Brenta Meats in Fairfield who donated the sausages - we’re so luck to have such wonderful community spirit in our neighbourhood (and I can tell you the chicken sausages were really delicious!).
