Enrol to vote

Our lovely local friend Ina, who is also on the ACC Committee of Governance, is currently a Democracy Ambassador, and is encouraging people to both enrol to vote (she’s asked us to remind you to make sure any newly minted 18 year olds in your family/friendship circle have enrolled) and also making sure that those eligible to be a ‘general postal voter’ due to age or illness or disability - know that they can have the paperwork sent to them … so they don’t have to rock up on the day to the voting station to put their two bobs in.

If you are interested in finding our more about becoming a general postal voter here is the link. Thanks Ina.

Christmas makers market

Are you a local maker? Would you like to have a stall at our upcoming Christmas Makers Market. It is going to be on Saturday 26 November which is in fact election day … always a fabulous day to be out and about in the community and walking in the neighbourhood. So we expect lots of local to stroll past … and hopefully combine their democracy activity with some retail therapy …

If you are keen for a stall you can book here.

If you are keen to get a jump on Christmas shopping and buy lovely things from local makers then save the date.

As usual we will have a lovey craft activity for any children who come along and a sausage sizzle to keep energy levels up.

Still.life

Daisies in our still.life paintings this week. What will it be next week? If you have some flowers 💐 in your garden to update one or all of our artworks please don’t hesitate to add them in or change out the arrangements. They’re on the fence awaiting your inspiration!

Thanks Yarra City Arts for supporting this participatory art project.

A new greenhouse

With funding from the Federal Government (to support volunteer activities) we recently purchased a little greenhouse for our front garden.

Thanks for putting it together Corrado. And thanks Ged Kearney MP for supporting this grant application. It’s great to be able to collectively support volunteering in our community

Now we’re looking forward to raising seedlings and nurturing cuttings for our seed library and community garden 🪴in it.

Visitors

Lovely to have the Minister for Women and Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins and local MP Kat Theophanous at Peer Support Playgroup on Tuesday.

We talked about how neighbourhood houses started as women’s organisations (and Natalie took a tour around the centre) before Natalie chatted to some mums about managing work and the juggle with family, childcare etc. - issues exacerbated for families living with disability.

She also talked o Sarah who volunteers here and is completing her VCE as a mature aged student part time through CAE.

Thanks for organising Kat. It is super for our community to have direct, thoughtful and meaningful conversations at this level.
