Hope everybody has had a great weekend!
Reminder that we are closed today (Monday the 9th) for the Labour Day public holiday, however our 2nd Monday book club will still be on tonight at 7:30.
We also have sound healing with Keiko running this week on Thursday the 12th from 7-8pm, if you’re interested in joining, book in directly with Keiko through sounddroplet.com.
Next week we have preserves group on Tuesday the 17th and also the very exciting Alphington Show on Saturday the 21st! The show has plenty of activities for all ages so bring your kids, your grandkids and anyone else who might enjoy a sausage, a Devonshire tea, the chance to win a huge jar of lollies or any of the many other activities that will be on for the day.
For our kiddies in particular, you can look forward to seeing some very cute goats, lambs, chicks, geese, bunnies, guinea pigs and more at our petting zoo, or helping us to create a brand-new sculpture for our centre with an exciting clay-making activity. We also encourage kids to enter the show for a chance to win a prize and to gain the title of best florist or biscuit-maker in Alphington! Kids are invited to enter any category, however we have three categories exclusively for our youngsters with flowers in a teacup for children 8+, decorate a saucer for those under 8 and best home-made biscuits for kids of any age. For more details on all of the other categories in the show, you can see a full list on our website.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Cheers,
Leanne
Exciting news! We’re starting an ACC footy-tipping competition this year. The season will kick off next week on Thursday the 5th of March with Sydney and Carlton, so sign up to join in at this link and who knows? By September you might be in the running for a prize or two!
We’re using the AFL Tipping site, so even if you’re in another competition on there you can join in the conversation and competition at ACC by signing up with our comp. as well.
Looking forward to sharing heaps of footy conversations (maybe)… definitely if the Tigers come back into their own this year!!!
Cheers Leanne
Great to have a new vet in the area ... and they’ve kindly approached us to offer some prizes for our Alphington Dog Show in March! How lovely. Here is some information about their open day coming up:
Build your own video game from scratch!
Creative Bytes is offering a free 10-week online coding course for families with children aged 8-12 in Clifton Hill, North Fitzroy, and surrounding suburbs. The program is proudly supported by Community Bank Clifton Hill–North Fitzroy and is designed to give children an accessible introduction to coding in a fun and engaging way.
Through this self-paced course, children learn to create their own video game using Scratch, a beginner-friendly, block-based programming platform used widely in schools. No prior coding experience is required, and the course is suitable for complete beginners.
Creative Bytes is a registered Australian charity that delivers coding and STEM programs through schools, libraries, and community organisations. Their programs focus on building digital skills, confidence, and creativity in children, while supporting educators and communities to deliver technology learning locally.
The course is completed entirely online at home and can be started at any time after registration. Families can work through the lessons at their own pace, and participation in the program is completely free.
